Employing Overseas IT Personnel Remotely

Japan is increasingly using digital personnel across national borders

Personnel dispatch companies in Japan are building networks with overseas STEM universities and the like, in order to introduce expert personnel with strong IT skills to Japanese companies. These dispatch companies may have workers sign consignment contracts with Japanese companies, but they are also developing systems and applications by which their overseas corporations employ the personnel directly, and are then sub-contracted by Japanese companies. According to the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry, there are over a million IT personnel in Japan. It calculates that there will be a shortage of 790,000 by 2030.

Now that remote work has taken root in the Covid-19 era, there is a rising desire among Japanese companies to commission IT work from workers who are still overseas. Work methods that are unbound to locations also lead to hiring superior personnel.

It takes time and money for companies to develop their own IT personnel. Moves to employ overseas personnel remotely are likely to expand.
