Through its subsidiary Orbis, Pola Orbis Holdings will Begin to Develop Unattended Cosmetics Stores

An online counseling section will also be available for visitors to the shop. It aims to respond to the shortage of beauty department staff by opening new stores and renovating existing stores and aims to have up to 15 stores in three years.

It will open its first store in the commercial facility "Granduo Tachikawa" (Tokyo) on the 12th of May, 2023. Under the name "ORBIS Smart Stand," will operate out of an existing manned store in the corner of the cosmetics section.

It has a sales floor area of approximately 50 square meters. Among them, 7 square meters will be a sales area utilizing the TOUCH TO GO (Tokyo) unattended settlement system. Users pass through a gate to enter the store and pick up their merchandise.

Cameras and sensors installed in the store are constantly checking merchandise trends. The system automatically switches to the checkout screen when users finally stand in front of the cash register near the exit. Once payment is made, a gate opens to allow visitors to exit the building.

The store will have an isolated sales area and an online counseling corner. By requesting counseling through a monitor, customers can talk with beauty salon staff members with small children who work from home.

According to the company, a typical store will have at least five beauty salons. Since unattended stores do not have permanent staff, they can reduce monthly operating costs to about 1/4 of average prices. In the future, it aims to turn around unprofitable stores by switching them to unattended stores and exploring expansion into remote locations within train stations and other places where it has yet to be able to expand in the past.
