TAKE and GIVE NEEDS (T&G) Enters the Budget Wedding Market with New “UNWEDDING” Brand

Redefining Marriage Ceremonies for a Generation That Wants Simplicity
TAKE and GIVE NEEDS (T&G), long known for its premium, mansion-style wedding venues, is entering the low-cost wedding market with the launch of a new brand, UNWEDDING. The company began accepting bookings in November at its newly opened UNWEDDING Nakanoshima venue in Osaka and plans to handle around 250 weddings a year under the new model.

The standard UNWEDDING package is designed for 50 guests and is priced at 1.21 million yen, less than one-third of T&G’s average wedding cost. Of this amount, the bride and groom pay 660,000 yen, while the remaining 550,000 yen is covered by a fee of 11,000 yen per guest. By comparison, T&G’s weddings in the April to June period of 2025 averaged 60 guests and a total cost of 4.08 million yen.

To keep costs down, the new venue has been built inside a commercial complex rather than as a standalone mansion, significantly reducing capital investment. Operational processes have also been streamlined. The number of pre-wedding consultations has been reduced, and instead of the traditional multi-course banquet, reception meals are served buffet-style, cutting catering labor expenses.

Despite the lower price point, T&G insists it is not compromising on quality. President Kenji Iwase emphasizes that the company will not “offer low-quality food at a low price.” The interior design also reflects a departure from conventional wedding aesthetics. Floral decorations have been replaced mainly by sofas and potted plants, creating a relaxed, living-room-like atmosphere. The venue also features a terrace overlooking the river that runs through Nakanoshima, adding an open, urban feel to the ceremony space.

Iwase notes that a growing number of couples feel that a traditional wedding is either unnecessary or financially out of reach. “I want to present this option to people who have doubts about the conventional format,” he says.

As Japan’s population declines and the number of marriages continues to fall, competition among wedding service providers is intensifying. By targeting couples seeking affordable, casual ceremonies, T&G hopes UNWEDDING will open a new growth path in a shrinking market.
